Sheaffer Connaisseur Fountain Pen

The Sheaffer Connaisseur fountain pen was first introduced to the public in 1986 and was available with a plain black barrel. This expanded to a couple more colors (burgundy and blue) by 1989 before an ever increasing range of colors and finishes that turned the Connaisseur fountain pen into an extremely diversified pen. As well as the original Connaisseur the range was joined by the very prestigious looking Grand Connaisseur.

The shape of the Connaisseur is reminiscent of far earlier flat top pens and while it is a sleek and attractive looking pen, the main feature with each one in the line is the writing quality which is very high.

The Sheaffer Connaisseur fountain pen is a cartridge converter making it a simple prospect of re-inking. The looks and style of the pen makes it an attractive pen when you see it at first glance. There are a number of minor changes that were made to the line as successive releases were made. These involved the nibs and sections at the top of the pen and the cap bands and clips at the bottom.

This is a fountain pen that is very collectable even though the oldest copies are only around 25 years old. With the various colors and styles of barrel finishes the process of collecting every Connaisseur represents an interesting challenge without being too onerous. Look for the following finishes of the Connaisseur: black; burgundy; cobalt blue; ivy green; herringbone; black lacquer; tortoiseshell; 23k gold EP; sterling silver.
